Tips for potty training in puppy
The most important thing about training your puppy relates to the toilet. You need to train him to toilet outside the house. It is your responsibility as a dog owner to not only feed and play with your puppy, but also him learn where to do his potty. Potty training a puppy is not as difficult as it sounds. All depends upon the way you handle it.
Following are some tips for potty training in your puppy:
- First, select a suitable place where you can let your puppy do his potty. The place can either be outside the house or inside the house. Frequently take your puppy at your chosen place so that he does the potty there quite often. Dogs have that characteristic of smelling the place where they did their potty the last time and prefer to do it again at the same place. So once your puppy gets used to the place, he will rush there as soon as he has a need to do potty. Make sure that you do not clean the potty place at the start of his potty training.
- There may be occasions where your puppy makes a mess inside the house. Do not get worried with it! Once the dog is done, make sure that you clean the mess immediately using an enzyme based cleaner. Enzyme based cleaner removes the smell completely. This will help you train your puppy do his potty outside. If you catch the puppy making the mess, discourage him from doing the act by shouting a ‘no’ at him and take him out immediately to get done.
- Puppies have a tendency to do potty before sleeping so make sure that you do not feed your puppy just before sleeping.
- It is important that you give your dog an easy access to the potty place. A doggy door will do the job for you.
