Helping A Depressed Cat

Like human beings cats show behavioral changes whenever a companion cat, dog or other animal passes away. They show signs of sorrow and grief. Even some of the cats in the family may stop eating their food and somehow show their grief. They show the same feelings for human companions. They usually miss their companion and that’s why they show behavioral changes. Poor cat may be depressed due to the separation of its companion or when its companion passes away.

We can’t exactly determine what they feel and why they are doing so? But we can be sympathetic towards their behavior change and help them in recovering from depression. Cats have strong attachment with their family members and when they don’t found them in their surrounding area for long durations, they realize their absence and feel depressed.

We have to understand their grief; they may refuse food or drink for many days. Fasting can result into liver damage for many sad cats causing their life more miserable than expected. So we must continuously feed it until it recovers, we should provide it veterinary doctor’s services in order to recover it entirely.

Cat may have nightmares of their companion and it may further depress it. Cats has a capability to sense death and separation, they feel that their companion will never return once it is dead or departs from them and that’s why they become depressed after they depart from their companions.

Cats show affection for their companions like dogs show. They miss their companion and become depressed in their remembrance. They may show some life pattern changes likewise lowering of appetite, different sleeping patterns, constipation, hair loss and stomach upset etc.

Cats usually recover from depression within a six-month period. If this doesn’t happen to your cat you can seek advice from your veterinary doctor. Your veterinary doctor may recommend anti depression medication for your poor cat. You must be sympathetic and extra careful for your depressed cat.

If your cat remains alone after the death or departure of its companion it becomes more depressed than when it remains in a group. So you can bring a new pet or cat so that it becomes live and active again. You must try to remove its solitude.
